We are excited to announce the winners of three Council of Editors of Learned Journals (CELJ) awards from the ceremony held last night at the 2014 Modern Language Association meeting. Duke University Press had a journal, a special issue, and an editor recognized for their achievements. Our congratulations to all winners!
Congratulations to Public Culture, co-winner of the 2013 CELJ Phoenix award. This award, given to most improved journal, recognizes a revitalization or transformation in either editorial direction or design to make an admired journal dramatically better.
Radical History Review's special issue, "Water: History, Power, Crisis," was the co-winner of the 2013 CELJ Best Special Issue award. Issues chosen for this award must reach a greater, popular audience. Collectively, in essays and photos, the contributors in this special issue investigate how water or its absence has affected human societies and seek to historicize the politics of the struggle to control one of our most crucial natural resources.
Nicholas Sturgeon, former editor of the Philosophical Review, was also honored last night. Sturgeon won the 2013 CELJ Distinguished Editor award. This award is given to an editor who has retired within the past three years who had a major influence on the journal's field of scholarship.
