We were sorry to learn of the death last week of
Patricia Pessar, Professor of American Studies and Anthropology at Yale and author of From Fanatics to Folk: Millenarianism and Popular Culture (2004) as well as several other books. Her teaching and research interests included transnationalism and globalization, gender and ethnic studies, and migration in the Americas. Pessar was married to Gilbert M. Joseph, who has written or co-edited 8 books with Duke University Press and co-edits our series American Encounters/Global Interactions. Our thoughts and sympathy are with Professor Joseph, their son Matthew, and all who knew her.
