The New York Times featured an op-ed by Nicholas Kristof this week that was focused on health care in the U.S. military. Kristof writes, “This is a rare enclave of single-payer universal health care, and it continues with a veterans’ health care system that has much lower costs than the American system as a whole.”
The single-payer health-care model was covered in-depth in “Exploring the Concept of Single Payer,” an issue of Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law. The issue is a collection of papers presented at a conference dedicated to the topic of single payer health systems hosted by the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, and the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota in 2008. This issue of the journal publishes several of the papers presented at that conference, along with thoughtful commentaries by some of the conference participants.
