We were thrilled to learn that the University of Hawaii Foundation will honor President Obama's mother, S. Ann Dunham, with an endowment fund. The fund will "will support a professorship in the UH Anthropology Department that will focus on research and teaching on Southeast Asia," the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports. Dunham, who died in 1995, received her doctorate in anthropology from the University of Hawaii and Duke University Press published her book, Surviving against the Odds: Village Industry in Indonesia, posthumously last year.
