J. Martin Favor, author of Authentic Blackness: The Folk in the New Negro Renaissance, is quoted in an AP story about whether categories like "black" and "white" are meaningful in a multiracial society. Favor says the traditional racial categories are "falling apart." He continues: "In 1903, W.E.B. DuBois said the question of the 20th century is the question of the color line, which is a simplistic black-white thing. This is the moment in the 21st century when we're stepping across that."
